Lip Augmentation

Lip Augmentation overview
As we age, a common complaint is thinning of the lips and decrease of red lip show. A SMAS lip augmentation is a surgical procedure that uses the patient’s own SMAS tissue (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) to augment the lips, instead of fillers, or synthetic implants.
How Is A Lip Augmentation Performed?
During a facelift, the SMAS layer is lifted and trimmed (fibrous layer beneath skin and fat). Portions of SMAS tissue that are usually trimmed or repositioned become availabe for grafting. A strip or small piece of SMAS is carefully removed. The tissue is then a graft- thin, even and tailored to fit the lip area. Small incisons are made at the corners of the mouth or inside the lips (hidden placement). Dr. Bitner creates tunnels within the lip where the SMAS graft will sit. The tiny incisons are closed with fine, dissolvable sutures.
What Is The Result After A Lip Augmentation?
The procedure will provide natural, permanent volume (unlike temporary fillers). Because its the patients own tissue, there is no risk of rejection or foreign body reaction. It can improve lip fullness, conture, definiton, especially in paients already undergoing a facelift.
